HABcore, Inc. Held 15th Annual Gala
HABcore, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides housing for the homeless, held its 15th annual fall gala, Showboat on the Shrewsbury, at McLoone’s Rum Runner in Sea Bright. Tim McLoone & the Shirleys and Christina Penatello and Ken Hanson of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Red Bank provided the entertainment.

County Recognizes Citizen Volunteers
Peggy Masse was among those honored with Citizen Service Awards that recognize individual efforts to improve their communities by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Peggy Masse, of Monmouth Beach, is a volunteer for HABcore, which works to provide housing and support services to people who are low income, homeless, disabled or unable to care for themselves. Over the past decade, Masse has served in many important ways, including as a member of the residential life committee, chaired the Artist Studio Tour and has been an enthusiastic worker in most of HABcore’s programs and events.

Volunteers Give Laurel House a face lift
Young volunteers from World Changers helped to rehabilitate Laurel House, a home in Asbury Park run by Red Bank-based HABcore, Inc., a non-profit corporation providing supportive housing for the homeless and disabled. Seven young volunteers and their three adult chaperones scraped and painted the trim of the 130-year-old Laurel House, a boarding home serving the homeless in Asbury Park.

Have a Heart, Help HABcore
RED BANK — Success stories abound for people who are helped through HABcore, a nonprofit organization that provides permanent and temporary housing as well as supportive services for approximately 100 residents in need from Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The organization provides homeless, disabled and disenfranchised people with a better quality of life by taking them off the street, out of institutions, and providing a safe place to live, healthy meals and encouragement.

Through HABcore many are able to develop lives of dignity and meaning.

HABcore held its fifth annual Jazz by the River festival at the Rumson Home of Ed and Laurie McNamee, attracting 104 guests who raised $10,500. HABcore Supporters Beat the Heat
A brownout curtailed the live jazz (and the air conditioning), but guests at Ed and Laurie McNamee’s home in Rumson had a cool time nonetheless Saturday evening.

They also raised funds for Red Bank-based HABcore, which provides temporary and permanent housing to unemployed and disabled persons.

The crumbling of the nation's economy and its uncertain future has changed the landscape for HABcore in recent years.

According to HABcore Executive Director Steve Heisman, government grants are changing, foundations have shut down or decreased their geographic reach, and others have simply decreased the amounts they are willing to donate.
