Giving Tuesday Goals Met!
New Shaker-style cabinets, kitchen countertops, and flooring are almost complete. Your generous Giving Tuesday donations coupled with our amazing professional trades and volunteers transformed three apartments into these cheery, sunlit, warm and welcoming spaces in Red Bank. With your support, we are meeting the goal of more affordable housing for three households.
Continue to follow our journey to adding appliances and all the finishing touches that will make these happy homes ready for laughter, love and the peace and tranquility.
Our 2025 Giving Tuesday campaign focused on a newly acquired, three-unit property in Red Bank that sorely needed nearly $30,000 in kitchen renovations before three deserving families could move in.
Joe Gagliano, chair of HABcore’s Property Management Committee, said each unit needed a complete kitchen makeover, including new appliances, cabinets, flooring and paint.
“This property was an eyesore with multiple code violations when we purchased it this past summer,” Gagliano, a longtime board member, said, noting that volunteers already made great strides in cleaning up the backyard, which was overrun with bamboo and had dilapidated sheds and garages.
“With the help of the Tower Hill Kitchen Crew, we began to renovate the kitchens at a significant savings.”
Tower Hill Church in Red Bank sent its volunteer crew to participate in the rehabilitation project throughout the fall.
The Wall Street triplex will be named after the late Rolf and Nancy Margenau, founding trustees of HABcore and longtime Rumson residents. Rolf served as board president for more than a decade. Nancy was a dedicated board member who helped with admissions to our initial boarding home in Red Bank and always helped keep the building clean. Several years ago, the couple honored Nancy’s cousin, David Carmine, by creating David's Emergency Fund for HABcore residents. The couple remained on the Advisory Council until their deaths in 2025. A house naming ceremony will be held in spring 2026.
The Wall Street project was partially funded by Red Bank developer Kalian and helps the borough meet its affordable housing obligations. The three households are expected to move in early 2026. The property has one, two-bedroom apartment and two, one-bedroom units.
The Wall Street renovation project was our most ambitious Giving Tuesday campaign.
With staggering cuts in federal funding on the horizon, HABcore relies on generous donors more than ever to ensure we can continue to provide permanent, supportive housing to low-income families, veterans and individuals with special needs.
