“Dress to the Nines” A New York State of Mind

Susan and Jim Harbison, Fair Haven

The Monmouth County Board of Commissioners

Steve Heisman, 25 Years as HABcore Executive Director

The HABcore Board of Trustees announces Susan and Jim Harbison of Fair Haven as the distinguished honorees for the highly anticipated 2024 fundraising event, slated to take place on the evening of May 31, 2024, at the beautiful Navesink Country Club. This year’s affair promises to be an unforgettable celebration, centered around the theme “Classic New York Experience,” featuring a delectable NY-style 4-course menu, a sophisticated Martini and Wine Bar, and the allure of a Fifth Avenue Silent Auction.

The honorees, Susan and Jim Harbison, stand as leaders of our community, consistently demonstrating their unwavering commitment to HABcore through selfless contributions of time, funds, and valuable resources. Susan, a retired Special Education teacher, joined the HABcore Board of Trustees in 2009 and served as President from 2011-2017. Sue now serves as Secretary on the Executive Committee and has chaired multiple committees. She is an active and outstanding advocate for HABcore’s mission. Jim Harbison, Sue’s husband of fifty years, joins Sue in devoting time to HABcore’s Residential Life Program and is an active volunteer on annual events (Gala, bowling, and beach field trips).

Both Susan and Jim deeply comprehend the mission of HABcore and the significance of active involvement in a grassroots community service organization. Their dedication to the well-being of families and children resonates with their steadfast support and commitment to help bring HABcore clients closer to a plan where their health and stability are primary and can thrive. Jim and Sue have resided in Fair Haven for 37 years, and are devoted parents to three children, and five grandchildren.

In a momentous milestone, Executive Director Steve Heisman commemorates an impressive 25 years at HABcore’s helm, a testament to his efforts in propelling HABcore’s staff, mission, and housing. HABcore has burgeoned into a $7 million organization, providing safe homes and support to more than four hundred people. As the Executive Director for 25 years, Steve has dedicated his career to advancing HABcore’s mission, fostering collaborations, and driving positive change in our community. His leadership is defined by his strategic vision, financial stewardship, and relentless commitment to making HABcore a lasting impact on countless lives throughout his career.

Steve oversees all HABcore business activities, managing the current programs and spearheading the acquisition and development of new initiatives. The agency now helps 12 times more people than when Steve commenced his 25-year tenure.

Steve serves on the Monmouth County Fair Housing Board and actively participates in various housing initiatives and committees throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. In 2007, Steve received the second annual Exemplary Performance in Non-Profit Management Award from the Community Foundation of New Jersey, and in 2010 he was named one of NJBIZ’s “Forty Under 40”.

HABcore also acknowledges and expresses gratitude to the pivotal role played by the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners; Commissioner Director Tom Arnone, Commissioner Deputy Director Ross Licitra, Commissioners Nick DiRocco, Susan M. Kiley, and Erik Anderson. Under the guiding hand of Commissioner Director Arnone, The Board of Commissioners advocates on behalf of the less fortunate. Their unwavering commitment has translated into substantial funding for HABcore over the years, allowing HABcore to continuously grow their assistance to the communities grappling with homelessness.

This honor extends beyond individuals; it recognizes the ultimate and compassionate community relationships and partnerships forged within our communities. HABcore’s “New York State of Mind” event is set to commence at 6:30 pm, promising a secure and inviting environment for its esteemed guests.

The evening unfolds with live entertainment, wine vendors, and a captivating gift auction, all culminating in a heartfelt celebration of our distinguished Honorees and guests who are dedicated to the betterment of New Jersey’s Monmouth and Ocean counties.
